The black church in so many instances, became the anchor, not just a meeting place for meetings, for voter registration drives, for rallies, but it became a shelter… I've heard people talking about it in some of these songs, shelter in the time of a storm. In Mississippi, in the summer of '64, it was a storm. And it was, for many of us, it was our faith that got us through.
