Abstract

In this post-mortem examination report on James Chaney’s body, Dr. David M. Spain details the injuries and physical deformations that were inflicted upon Chaney. Dr. Spain reports that the injuries are definitely a result of an extreme beating with either a blunt instrument or a chain. He also reports that Chaney suffered bullet wounds to the skull and ribs, but notes that it is impossible to know whether Chaney died before or after the bullet wounds were inflicted. He concludes by explaining that Chaney’s shattered bones were more severe than any bone injury that he had seen in his 25 years of work, except for those following airplane crashes.
