The author describes the negative reaction of a city judge to a biracial group that was denied admission to a segregated church after the group's subsequent arrest. Judge James L. Spencer punished the seven white Methodist ministers and two African Americans with $500 fines and six-month jail sentences. Judge Spencer criticized the group of civil rights activists for trying to infiltrate the all-white Capitol Street Methodist Church.  According to Judge Spencer, the church had the right to decide the racial makeup of its own worshippers.
