Abstract

In this letter to civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, fellow activist and Jewish American philanthropist Kivie Kaplan updates Hamer on their shared interests. He noted that the synogogue Temple Israel had recently approved an upcoming project for the civil rights cause and that the project's leaders would begin raising funds promptly. Additionally, Kaplan discussed his recent travels to other cities in the North to promote racial equality. Finally, he inquired if Hamer had any information regarding civil rights activist James Reed, who worked with the Mississippi Freedom Labor Union.
