Letter from Fannie Lou Hamer to Unknown Person
In this recounting of events, prominent civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer describes a bout of police harassment experienced by herself and her husband. Two police officers entered the Hamers' home without a warrant and flashed a light around the interiors without making any sort of demand for information. The two police officers then departed. This story highlighted a larger problem of police harassment of and, at times violence toward, civil rights activists.
