In this brief note to a recipient addressed as Louie, author Geraldine McGiffin attaches a check to support the civil rights work of prominent activist Fannie Lou Hamer.  McGiffin, a native of Louisiana, explained that she had seen Hamer speak about her work and felt "deeply ashamed" of the violence directed at civil rights activists in the South.
