Abstract

In this report, the author recounts the events that occurred worldwide to celebrate the International Walk for Development in 1971.  In countries around the world including the United States, England, Kenya, and many others, hundreds of thousands of people convened to demonstrate for human development and equality.  Internationally famous figures, including Pope Paul VI and U Thant, then the Secretary-General of the United Nations, participated in the walks.  As a result of the walks, organizers raised approximately $5 million for development work around the world.
