Abstract

Elizabeth Fusco, the coordinator for the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) Freedom Schools, writes this letter to Mississippi Governor Paul Johnson in October of 1964. In the letter, Fusco implored Johnson to give serious consideration to resolutions created by students from the Mississippi Freedom Schools who had converged together that summer. Fusco explained that these students had identified social problems rampant in Mississippi and had met in Meridian, Mississippi, to discuss these serious grievances. Fusco ended the letter by asking Johnson to implement changes that would make his office representative of all citizens of Mississippi.
