Abstract

The author reports on the mishandling of federal funds by the Mississippi Child Development Project, which had been sponsored by the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO). The author also derided the leadership of program director Polly Greenberg, who resigned from the Head Start Program to join the Child Development Group. The author denigrated the project's obvious affiliation with civil rights activism, and repeatedly insinuated that the program's real goal was to indocrinate young children in civil rights activism. She also suggested that funds were being misappropriated to the benefit of the program's staff and administration, giving as evidence seemingly extravagant salaries and chartered plane trips, among other things.
