Getting Started

You can access all the information on this site in a variety of ways. At the left on each screen you will find a menu with the following clickable categories:

Actors, Scenes, Themes: Each one of these categories provides a different lens through which to view the first-hand experiences of individuals during the civil rights movement.

Actors:  Click on the names of different people to find biographical information under the "Bio" tab; their stories through quotes and excerpts of personal interviews under the "In Their Own Words" tab; annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive associated with them under the "Documents" tab; and any full length interviews under the "Full-Length Interview" tab.

Scenes:  Click on the different time frames to find a short discription of each scene under the "About" tab; Actors' stories situated according to their temporal context under the "In Their Own Words" tab; and annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive associated with these specific time frames under the "Documents" tab.

Themes: Click on the different themes to find a short description of each theme under the "About" tab; Actors' stories situated thematically under the "In Their Own Words" tab; and annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive associated with these specific themes under the "Documents" tab.

Documents: General Search: Search or browse all annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive currently available online. Check back for new entries.

Documents: Keyword Directory: Click on the different keywords to find annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive associated with these keywords.

General Site Search: A search of the entire site will bring up all text including bios, descriptions, annotated bibliographic entries of documents from the archive and quotes from actors.
