Abstract 

This article is an inside look at women's rights legal strategies in the civil rights movement. It describes the history of women's struggle to achieve civil rights, emphasizing the way in which women's movements were modeled on and had organizational connections to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
